Here it is: the update roundup.
I will try to explain and highlight what changed in the past year, besides the fact Quake Live went out of beta of course!
Hopefully you will find this roundup useful and discover new things that were put in the game. Read More
Not too long ago – September 28th: content and skill matching – Quake Live got it’s 1st content update pack with 4 additional maps. Alas, no CTF map present there, but rejoice as Finnegan’s has made the cut. Besides Finnegan’s – better known to old-school Quake players as W3 – 3 other maps and a series of game changes are live since today’s update.
So let’s go over the worth-mentioning things in the October update: Read More
I don’t really repeat the QL newspage that often. Since you are a fan of Quake Live, you should read them all on the Quake Live website anyway, but sometimes it’s worthy to repeat and mention the key points that make this update more valuable to the players than others.
New content and improved skill matching! Read More

id Software changed its update process a while ago to a weekly update cycle set on every Tuesday. While some updates aren’t really worth mentioning, there are some features added that deserve their share of attention. I will list some of them here with a short explanation of why you should take a look at these features. Read More
Concluding this short series of 6 new and/or returning maps, is a fresh CA map called Quarantaine.
“Quarantaine” is a medium sized Clan Arena map suitable for 2 to 10 players, but there have been made special tweaks when playing this map as Team Death Match as well, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out for both gametypes. Read More
Map 5 of the 6 new maps in 6 weeks is another old map. Unless you played Quake 3 OSPCPMA CTF Pick-ups or Leagues then you may not recognise Courtyard Conundrum AKA q3w2 except in a frag video. Courtyard Conundrum was a staple of the CTF leagues and pick-ups, loved by some and sometimes overlooked by others. The map is fairly balanced and I can see there are changes* being made from the screenshots that Id have released. This is a map you’ll have to know.
It had to happen sooner or later: pro settings. Many screamed for it, many don’t care at all, and perhaps some haven’t figured out yet what this “pro” thing is that is labeled on several TDM servers nowadays.
In a first step towards competition settings – in case you forgot, they are working on it 😉 – a small difference has been made public: a change in weapon spawn times on TDM servers. Players new to Quake Live know only the regular spawn settings, but Quake 3 spawn times originally were 30 seconds for a weapon. This lead to heavy competitive behavior and map control was crucial as without a gun, making a difference suddenly became very hard.
Quake Live introduced a shorter weapon spawn, which gave freshly spawned players a breath of air, but annoyed the opponent also because that same map control lost a significant part of it’s importance. But now the longer weapon spawn time is back in town, and players have to review their gamestyle. However, Quake Live features another impact on teamplay that Quake 3 didn’t have: drop weapon. We kept seeing Quake Live forum threads begging for this Map made years ago by Sten “Ztn” Uusvali, yet until now the developers kept their cards close to their chests about bringing back old user made Maps. For many years Ztn’s Blood Run was a Quake 3 Tournament favorite and yet it seemed like it Read More
Yeah baby yeah! Oldschool Quake players will definitely remember this map from Quake 3 and even Quake 2 and being made for idsoftware by Threewave – one of the best mapping teams for Quake 3 ever – idsoftware now reformed it into a Quake Live release: Bloodlust aka qzctf9.
“Bloodlust” is a regular ctf map without the runes and is suitable for 8 to 10 players.
By now everybody already heard of it and probably might have played a few games on it already, but I especially waited 2 days after release to gather some first impressions. Read More
