Sponge has released an update for the Quake Live preview section. In this preview 4 maps are shown: 2 duel maps, 1 FFA map and 1 CTF map. But what’s really exciting about this preview is that a new gametype has been announced. For those who love to play DeFRaG will be happy to see the new Race gametype. In it’s current setup, racers will have to capture flags along checkpoints and get to the finish in the shortest time possible. The preview shows several screenshots of the gametype.

The standard mappool has been switched up again for July. As you know, every 1st monday of the month the free mappool consisting of 25 maps gets randomized and this month’s results are in. We see the return of Quake favorite Campgrounds and CTF favorite Troubled Waters. Hektik makes it way back for the standard duelers and I’m pretty sure that for some reason Longest Yard will be played a lot in general.
TDM is nicely summarized by Lam in the QL forums:
Lam:
This month on public servers, Campgrounds will be played a lot. Deep Inside will be in its shadow, but will get games as well. We’ll see if public players give a chance to Limbus, a new QL map which is unlucky enough to compete with Campgrounds each time it’s in the standard pool.
You can find the rest of the maplist below. Read More

When real life gets in the way, news is slightly delayed. I welcome applications to post Quake news so leave a comment if you are interested. Now on topic: the standard mappool has been switched up for June and we can expect little from CTF this month with Siberia and Space CTF in the pool (you know which you want to play and which will get played the most). Phrantic and Aerowalk, amongst others, are present for Duel. TDM has no interesting maps in the pool this month (thanks to Lam for confirming my thoughts). If there’s any time to get a 1 month token, now is it.
The latest sampler is Attack & Defend. Id Software describes it as a mix between CTF and CA, where each team takes turns attacking or defending the flag. Sounds like fun? Sampler servers are up and available for everyone!

For those who haven’t logged in in the past 2 days, the Quake Live sampler has been switched up to Domination. What you need to do in Domination is capture points and make sure your team doesn’t lose them, simple as that. The sampler matches have been switched up again and we are now running Read More
I wanted to highlight this part from the Premium Pak 17 update, so here it goes: next weekend, May 10th to May 12th Quake Live will be completely FREE! All content will be available to standard players, so if you always wanted to test the Quake Live Premium content, this weekend will be the perfect Read More
Id Software has release Premium Pak 17, meaning that everyone who has a paid subscription will get new content and (slightly) older premium content will be passed down to the free members. This time however 1 of the new premium maps will be released straight into the standard mappool: a Clan Arena map named Repent. This has everything to do with the fact that Quake Live was unavailable for quite some time. To further soothe the sore Id Software has also extended the paid subscriptions by 3 days.
Now that I have briefly mentioned Repent: along with this new map Id Software also released 2 other maps. A TDM map named Arcane Citadel and a duel map named Cure. All 3 maps also purpose other game modes such as Red Rover, Freeze Tag and others (details in the full release note). I will run through all of these maps later and attach a video if my partner in crime Lashknife is up for it.

Further down the release note we can find that next weekend will be free premium weekend! The rest of the premium pak includes a few other smaller changes that have been made to the game, such as a HUD Score Element fix and some map fixes.
This concludes the short overview of the new Premium Pak, read the full log by clicking the Continue Reading button if you have stumbled on this post via our homepage or click here to read it straight from the source. Read More
For those who have missed the News button on the Quake Live website: sponge has released a bit more information about the downtime. Most importantly, anyone who has registered after Monday, April 29, starting from 2AM CDT (8AM GMT, 9AM CET) will have to register his account again. Anyone who made changes to his already existing account will have to make them again, this includes profile settings, ingame-settings and binds that are replicated to the site (qlconfig and repconfig) and the addition or removal of friends and clans. Check your settings and make sure everything is alright. Read More
Quake Live has returned after being down for almost 2 days. It is still unclear what the reason was, but Id Software will be releasing more information soon. While we wait, you can check out the preview of Premium Pak 17 or play some 1-Flag CTF. Read More
In case you didn’t notice: Quake Live is still down. I was waiting for it to come up and write something about it but I guess someone tripped over the wrong set of wires making the downtime longer than anyone expected.
