Visual HUD public alpha
I love it when people take on a project that tackles the difficulty for new players – or just makes it easy for the lazy 🙂 – by creating something for their favorite game. Namad is such a person who started working on Visual HUD: a Quake Live online HUD generator.
I can relate to such projects, when releasing my first version of the config generator, I had to fix a huge amount of bugs, in little spare time, with almost weekly updates and changes to the commands and variables in Quake Live. That was even during closed beta. I can only cheer for a fellow gamer who took the bull by the horns in releasing a HUD generator. And when that person asks me to promote this thing, of course I will spam it wherever I can. 😀
As you can see on the YouTube demonstration video below, the hud generator features the ingame window, with several selectable options like drawgun, weapon bar location and the option to show a grid for easy coordination and item placement. This is also where the snap functionality comes in handy. Various items can be dragged and dropped onto the view, allowing for many customizations regarding font size, color, transparency and positioning.

So far, being in a public alpha state, it won’t give you a config yet that you can directly use in Quake Live, but I’m sure that in time lots of extra features and fancies will be added to make this a very good tool for old and new players. But if you can’t wait to try it out, then make sure to peek inside the FAQ to get going.

Wow, this looks awesome, do want!
easy for the lazy? Thats non sense . A good graphical lay out makes life a lot easier. Nothing more annoying then having to type everything out when some one could do the work once and end the torment for everyone. Its called sacrifice and its freakin boss. Awesome idea and great contribution even tho most people that I talk to don’t care much for custom huds, but it makes me feel unique like an endangered species.
n1 Namad, looks really nice, hope we can use this in the near future.
That looks awesome.
Victor, the lazy is of course a joke 😉
Looks great! I’ll try this tool!
Update: Tried, but can’t save… I presume that why it’s “alpha” 🙂
BTW. Is there any updated version of config generator?
not yet (mind the ‘yet’ 😉 )
Nice description & demonstation, but I cannot use it. My browser Opera shows empty page with stripes only. I’m trying it on laptop, but game is in table PC. Should I try it on table PC, where I have game installed?
